Let’s face it: college is expensive, and we’re not just talking about tuition. There’s housing, books, food costs, and furnishings for your dorm room or apartment. Moving and storing your belongings is another expense, but Element Moving and Storage makes that part easy and affordable. You can store your things in our facility and have them delivered to your new place when you’re ready to move in. Call us today to find out more about our moving services in Dallas-Fort Worth and Austin!
Here are some other ways to keep your move on track and within your budget:
1). Know What You’ll Need
Do some pre-move research so you’ll know what you need to bring and what you can leave behind. Will your new apartment have a washer and dryer? Which appliances are available at your dorm? If you’ve got easy access to a microwave and mini fridge, you won’t have to bring your own.
2). Declutter as You Go
This is the perfect opportunity for you to get rid of things you no longer need. You could try and recoup some of your moving expenses by listing your things for sale online or having a garage sale at your home. You could also donate them at your local Goodwill.
3). Time Your Move
Schedule your moving date as far in advance as you can. Most college students move on the weekend, so try and schedule your move for a weekday if possible. That way, you won’t be moving in the middle of a chaotic crowd.
4). Schedule Utility Connections
Find out who your utility providers will be and set up a connection date in advance of your move. You will need power, water, internet, and possibly trash pickup and gas if you’re moving into an apartment or house.
5). Seek Student Discounts
Most college students are on a tight budget, and there are lots of places that offer discounted rates to students who present their student ID. Use this to your advantage to offset the cost of feeding yourself during your move and shopping for last-minute supplies. Not sure if a place offers discounts? It never hurts to ask!
6). Beware the Summer Heat
If you’re moving during a hot Texas summer, take care to stay hydrated and avoid heat exhaustion. Make sure aerosol products or items that might melt are packed last and kept cool during transport. Or avoid these problems entirely by hiring Element Moving and Storage! We’ll do all the work for you, and we’ll keep your belongings in a climate-controlled facility until you need them.
7). Make Connections Online
Most colleges have forums where new students can ask questions about move-in, connect with others who share similar interests, and sign up for events. Check your college’s website frequently for updates and sign up for their newsletter to stay informed.
8). Take Care of Yourself
It’s easy to get stressed out when you have so much going on, but try to make things easier on yourself when you can. Eat well, stay rested, and enlist the help of friends and family to take some of the burden of moving off of your shoulders. Consider hiring a professional moving service to do your packing, transport, storage and delivery so you can focus on all things school-related.
